With the #ROXYpro on hold for the boys to complete a few rounds at the #QuikPro, we decided to escape the craziness of Coolangatta for the morning and take a day trip further down the coast for a few uncrowded waves and some downtime with the team.
Our strike mission began early with Mainei, Bruna, Lisa, Bianca and Lee-Ann strapping boards and packing cars with all the essentials before 6am, and after a quick coffee stop, we were fueled up and ready to hit the highway.
It didn’t take us long to feel like we were miles away from the hustle and bustle of Coolangatta, with the urban sprawl slowly melting into the coastal rainforest lining the highway.
In no time we were parked at the Cabarita headland and taking in the uninterrupted views along the dramatic rocky coastline of the morning surf conditions. After a quick decision as to where we would make our camp for the morning, we promptly unpacked the cars and set off down the beach.
Lee-Ann and Bianca were the first ones to hit the water, carefully selecting their weapon of choice from our collective quiver (naturally, we packed for all conditions), with Bruna close behind. The girls were spoiled with an empty line up to share and wasted no time in giving passers by a reason to stop and watch their enviable skills.
A few of our favorite beach essentials
As the girls started to come back in from the surf, the subject soon turned to lunch and where to find it. We took a short walk from the beach and stumbled across a sushi bar that seemed to answer everyone’s cravings.
Within minutes of devouring a few hand rolls and gyoza, we were told that the perfect spot to relax on a sunny day in Cabarita was Halcyon House, and given it was just a five minute walk away, we just couldn’t resist.
A refreshing spritzer and plenty of laughs later, we decided to pack up the cars again and head back to Snapper Rocks, just in time to catch Steph set the super bank on fire, catching four barrels in one heat.
Tune in to the dawn patrol show tomorrow morning from 7am AEDT call, for all the finals day action (fingers crossed!)
