Exciting news, ROXY’s new season wetsuits are here! And naturally, with any fresh drop of technical product, comes a slew of questions; what neoprene thickness is best? What’s my local water temp? Chest zip or back zip? Help.

It’s difficult to cut through the jargon, so we asked Andy from @noshoes_noworries to take the guesswork out of the process and review our latest Roxy wetsuit collection. Thanks Andy!

Every year ROXY level up in the wetsuit technology and style department, consistently working on new ways to create better performance, durability and flexibility in their designs, no matter your surfing level.

I’ve reviewed their latest and greatest styles to break them down and give you an insight into what exactly (as an example) the new Satin Collection holds different compared to all the other neoprene out there. This will give you the tools you’ll need to help you decide on what wetsuit works best for your surf style and climate.

What’s more, in this review, we also look into what makes ROXY neoprene so special, from the sourcing of their rubber (hint: It’s all sustainable!) to the resources used to produce them.

So, without further ado, here’s what you need to know to make your next ROXY wetsuit purchase an informed and customised decision. First things first...

WHAT ARE ROXY WETSUITS MADE OF?

ROXY prides itself in being at the forefront of eco-conscious and performance driven technology to create the best wetsuits for women, without compromising on fashion or function. All their wetsuits; be it the Satin collection springsuits, Performance or Syncro collection, are made from limestone derived neoprene. The earth mineral limestone replaces the petrochemicals formerly used to create them, which means their stretch flight technology neoprene takes 24% less CO2 emissions to produce, per wetsuit. Cool, huh?

ROXY incorporates recycled material as much as they can, from scrap rubber tires for Carbon Black (one of the key ingredients in neoprene), to reusing neoprene scraps and reducing water consumption all through the manufacturing process. The POP surf collection is even made from recycled plastic bottles, with the polyester material using up to 25 (yep, 25!) plastic bottles per wetsuit.

What’s more, the glide skin and neoprene technology in all ROXY wetsuits is designed with equal parts style, flexibility and performance in mind, so they never compromise on function or performance. ROXY’s aim is to create only eco-friendly swimwear by 2022, and it feels as though they’re on the right track thanks to a community giving constant feedback on designs and sustainability endeavours!

THE SATIN COLLECTION:

When writing this review, I aimed to focus on the aspects of a ROXY wetsuit that are non-negotiables. Namely: warmth, mobility and style. The satin capsule balances fashion and function in the water, with ROXY’s best neoprene and Warm Flight technology yet. Seamlessly blending a combination of flexible, strong and durable material, the Satin collection wetsuit range offers something for every type of surfer gal. No matter the season or temperature in the water, the technology infused in these pieces has you covered.

The feminine cuts, bold designs and modern, tonal floral print are a subtle reminder that girls can shred and look really good while doing so. When it comes to women’s wetsuits, it’s good to know you’ve got the equipment you need to focus more on your skills and less about your toes turning blue.

Here’s a breakdown of the Satin collection suits, ROXY’s most coveted collection yet:

SATIN CAPSULE 3:2 FRONT ZIP STEAMER:

Good for: Long water sessions where warmth and flexibility are key. Front zip means you’re practically sealed into your suit with very few ways for water to trickle in. The front zip entry system with speed zip (that’s what we call the magnet feature) means there’s no fussing around to find the zipper.

Use this if: You’re ready to shred.

With all components of this suit made with the highest technology, the Satin collection’s front zip steamer has all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a performance wetsuit. The Stretch Flight 2 technology and glide skin seal ensure you stay warm enough with a full range of motion through the shoulders and hips. The seam technology around your wrists, ankles and neck make sure there is minimal water seeping into your wetsuit, keeping you dry well into your session.

Warmth: Warm Flight Technology keeps your body heat in and the water out.
Fit/Flexibility: Stretch Flight 2 is a lightweight, eco-friendly limestone that offers full range of motion. Paddle like a pro and look like one too.
Style: The Satin front body panel creates a sheen-like look and figure-hugging illusion, emphasising the female body shape and making you feel way less like a beached seal and more like a mermaid.

SATIN CAPSULE 3:2 BACK ZIP STEAMER:

Good for: Easy to slide into, this style is identical to the one above. The main difference being the back-zip feature with an adjustable neck closure and extra panel (aptly named the hydro shield water barrier) that creates a secure and water tight seal, meaning there’s little to no chance of any cold water trickling down your back.

Use this if: You need a little less fuss then an over-the-head wetsuit and love the freedom of a back zip.

SATIN CAPSULE 1MM BIKINI SPRINGSUIT:

Good for: Those warm summer days where you still need a little something.

Use this: If you’re feeling a little cheeky and want to tan your legs.

If you live in any regions around the Atlantic and Pacific oceans that don’t involve the tropics, this spring suit is most likely your go to in the warmer months of the year. Ultra-light weight, it feels like a second skin. The design is sleek, modern and features the glide skin material on the panel of the front body for a figure flattering cut. Not to mention, it keeps everything in place without you having to worry about adjusting any wardrobe malfunctions.

Warmth: The 1mm is the perfect transition for Spring into Summer months.
Fit/Flexibility: The cheeky cut bottom means your legs and hips are free to perform at their best.
Style: Elegant, flattering and with an adjustable front zip for that cool-girl effect.

PERFORMANCE 2:2 LONG SLEEVED SPRINGSUIT:

Good for: A traditional (some would say vintage) silhouette with maximum coverage and 0 worries.

Use this if: The weather is warm but the water is still cold enough to compromise how long your session will be.

Warmth: The front zip design means you’re locked and sealed with minimal-to-no water passing through thanks to the same Stretch Flight 2 Technology.
Fit/Flexibility: The mid-thigh bottoms still offers just as much range of motion as the bikini springsuit, with the added bonus of keeping your upper legs warm.
Style: Sleek and modern, with a vintage feel. Created with performance in mind.

POP SURF 3:2 CHEST ZIP STEAMER:

Good for: Ultimate performance, style and sustainability

Use this if: You need a pop of colour for your surf and are an eco-friendly she-shredder.

The Pop Surf Collection offers all the same technology and benefits as the Satin Collection, with Warm Flight and Stretch Flight technology at the forefront of its designs, with the added bonus of incorporating 25 recycled plastic bottles into its creation.

Fit/Flexibility: Stretch Flight 2 is a lightweight, eco-friendly limestone that offers full range of motion.
Style: It doesn’t get any brighter or colourful then the Pop surf collection, for the girl who isn’t afraid to stand out in the line-up.
