Aimee Fuller

Aimee Fuller was born in England, a country not typically known for its snow-topped mountains and snowboard culture. It wasn’t until Aimee moved to the US at the age of 12 that she tried snowboarding for the first time. From then on, she began riding every weekend, and was officially hooked after her first snowboard contest.

During summer camp at Mt. Hood, Oregon, Aimee was spotted by our very own Erin Comstock. Aimee joined the UK Roxy Team and then the European Future Team where she has been killing it ever since. With wild style and technical skills, she's a joy to watch in the park.

Aimee competed for Great Britain at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia in the women’s slopestyle event.

Off-snow, Aimee loves surfing, skating, running, and cycling. She is even a qualified fitness instructor!

The first European event for the 2017 #ROXYfitness global tour kicked off with a bang on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea today. Thousands of girls eagerly laced-up alongside ROXY team riders, Justine Mauvin, Mainei Kinimaka and Olympian, Aimee Fuller for a morning of fitness fun to celebrate leading an active outdoor lifestyle.

With the ROXY x Hattie Stewart Collection hitting the slopes this month, we had Aimee Fuller take on DJ duties for our December Monthly Mixtape. Perfect for days spend cruising the park, maybe a little après pump up session or your New Year's Eve countdown playlist.

Turn it on, turn it up and enjoy!

London based illustrator and self titled ‘professional doodler’, Hattie Stewart, lent her fun and quirky, cartoon-esque style to our latest exclusive snow outerwear collaboration, giving a fresh hit of bold color to the slopes this season.

Best known for her ‘doodle bombs’, featuring her vibrant and playful characters drawn over magazine covers and fashion photography, Hattie’s art can now be found on taxi’s, album covers and counts Kylie Minogue, Marc Jacobs and Henry Holland as fans.

We recently caught up with Hattie to hear more about her work and what inspired the collection -

How did you get started in illustration?

Illustrating generally has always been the thing that gives me my sense of calm and purpose. I've drawn from a very young age. Over the years, and especially through my education I have experimented with many different creative avenues – photography and fashion being two examples. However I always came back to doodling and drawing – it's what has always underpinned my creativity. As my work has developed and my confidence has grown I've been able to take my drawing style into new territory, it's been applied to photography and I've worked within fashion. The term 'doodlebombing', which has been used to describe my work, it essentially a play on words. It came about when 'photo bombing' became a phenomenon – and it's stuck ever since.

How would you describe your creative process?

It’s pretty organic but depends entirely on mood and project. Predominantly I give myself a bit of time to think things through and then I get straight to drawing - usually for hours at a time. I like to work straight without interruption.

Behind the Collab - Meet Hattie Stewart

What was your inspiration in the ROXY collection?

Just to create something colourful, fun and expressive - just like the talented athletes wearing the pieces.

What’s the most exciting part of a collaboration?

Seeing my designs in action on Olympic Snowboarder Aimee Fuller. So cool.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given or that your would give?

Don't get mad, get drawing. If someone doesn't appreciate you today, keep working because they might do tomorrow – but always remember, deep down, the work you create has to be for yourself and you only.

Do you get a kick out of seeing your work on people on the street/on the slopes?

Oh definitely. I’ve had a number of low days and then I’ll see my work in situ and feel a little buzz again. Seeing it on the slopes though that’s something new for me and seeing such awesome female athletes wearing my work is so cool.. women who are working to the top of their own fields and are crossing paths along the way is one of the reasons I love what I do. Hopefully they’ll teach me to snowboard one day, always wanted to try it..

What’s next?

Hopefully getting out on the slopes. Until then though I’m off to Sri Lanka for 3 weeks and will continue to draw..

Round 2 resumed this morning at the #ROXYpro France, with 6x World Champ Stephanie Gilmore facing off against Hawaiian, Malia Manuel.

After a slow start, Steph tucked into a clean barrel and scored the highest wave score of the afternoon with an 8.83.

It came down to a close finish in the final minutes of the heat, Steph taking the win and progressing to Round 3 with a 13.50 to Malia’s 13.40

Here are the Round 3 match ups:

Heat 1: Johanne Defay VS Tyler Wright VS Sage Erickson

Heat 2: Courtney Conlogue VS Stephanie Gilmore VS Coco Ho

Heat 3: Carissa Moore VS Nikki Van Dijk VS Alessa Quizon

Heat 4: Sally Fitzgibbons VS Tatiana Weston-Webb VS Dimity Stoyle

Steph has had an epic cheer squad on the beach this week, with the ROXY surf and snow teams cheering her on through the first rounds of competition. Although the girls have had a busy schedule of signing sessions, event hangs, photo shoots, there has still been plenty of time to share the stoke and a whole lotta laughs in between.

After a string of lay days, the #ROXYpro kicked off yesterday in pumping Hawaiian-style conditions at Les Culs Nus beach, near Hossegor. The girls made the most of the epic swell, scoring barrel rides and the first perfect 10 of the competition.

If you missed any of the action, here are our highlights -

Day 1 of the #ROXYpro France

Heat one opened with a bang! Tour rookie; Tatiana Weston-Webb claimed the day’s standout performance against Bianca Buitendag and fellow Hawaiian Alessa Quizon, getting pitted in a beautiful set wave barrel and scoring the first perfect 10 of the comp.

The beach was buzzing in the lead up to heat 4, as 6x World Champion Stephanie Gilmore pulled on a comp jersey for the first time since April, at the Margaret River pro. With a tough match up against World number 2, Carissa Moore, Steph struggled to match Carissa’s momentum, coming away with a 12.66 to Moore’s 18.77.

As the morning was dedicated to the #Quikpro, Bruna and Lee-Ann found some fun waves a little further down the beach at Capbreton.

Team rider and Olympic snowboarder Aimee Fuller takes us through some of her fitness tips, breaks down her preparation for a trick and her steady progression in tackling larger jumps.

With Aimee Fuller, you see more than just a few flips and tricks, she’s fiercer than that. What you will see is Aimee having the most fun on the mountain. Taking it by storm with a big smile on her face.

Aimee recently headed to Australia for the first time to compete in the opening event of the Slopestyle series tour. Since it was her first trip down under we caught up with Aimee to hear all about photobombing kanagroos, swimming with sharks and riding the epic park conditions.

This your first time to Australia, how have your travels been so far?

Australia is awesome! So far I've seen Kangaroos, rode an awesome park, worked on some new tricks and swam with a shark!!! I've never been here to snowboard before, so coming somewhere new is the best. I was shocked at how big the mountains are and even more impressed with the parks. We were up at Perisher, super chill vibe and epic park. Loved it!

Are you a last minute or plan-ahead packer?

Well this trip was kind of last minute, I spoke to a couple of the Aussie gang and word on the street was good park and good snow, so it was a last minute pack on this one for sure! But in general id say I'm more last minute!

What won't you travel without?

Headphones! Get the tunes in and on the go and travelling is a breeze!

What's your favorite thing about being on the road when you're travelling and competing?

I love the sense of adrenaline you get from competing; it's everything you've got put into 2 runs! So there's a little pressure, which I like and huge adrenaline when you stomp it! Competing means you get to travel a lot to some insane places, and I love being on the road with the snowboard crew, the girls are awesome, like one big travelling family!! I never ever imagined I would even get to go to Australia, let alone snowboarding!

You always look like you're having the most fun. Your hair has it's own twitter page and your instagram feed is hilarious.

Haha yeah that's kind of crazy about my Hair twitter page, I don't even know who does it! Seems like they keep it pretty up to date.

Fro day. @roxy

Is that the key to your style, getting out there and having fun?

Yeah I like to express that in my riding, when I'm having fun on my board that's when I progress the most, you only get one chance to live your life, so I like to make the most of any opportunity that comes my way and keep it as fun as possible through my riding, travelling, family and friends.

What did you learn from being an Olympian?

The whole world is watching you and anything you say or do is talked about worldwide. I had a rough season the year before with shoulder injuries so qualifying 10 days before the games in the last 2 contests has made me mentally tougher. It brings the world together and creates the most amazing country camaraderie. Walking into the opening ceremony with Team GB as we were called through the tunnel, the roar of the team and crowd was something I'll never forget.

Just smile :)

It's #olympicday let's get active!!!

A photo posted by Aimee Fuller (@aimee_fuller) on

What are you looking forward to the most this season?

Just getting out on my board. Riding as much as I can without the "Olympic pressure" and pushing myself to see what I am capable of! I'm excited.

What and where is next on your agenda?

I'm heading to Hemel Hempstead in England it's a snow dome to work on a signature park night, that'll be fun! Then head out to Austria sometime in October, I love it out there. Fall In the Alps is beautiful.
